  1. Heat water in an idli pan.
  2. Place a cloth on the idli plate.
  3. Spread maida on the cloth.
  4. Cover the pan with a lid.
  5. Steam maida for half an hour.
  6. Remove the maida and spread on a big plate to dry.
  7. Soak asafoetida in water. Mix the maida, black gram dal flour, sesame, asafoetida water, salt, and butter with water little by little. Knead well into a dough.
  8. Heat oil in a frying pan.
  9. Place some dough in the murukku mould and press into the oil.
  10. When the murukku turns golden brown, remove it from oil.
Serves 2
  • Maida ½ kg
  • Butter 50 g Oil ¼ litre
  • Sesame 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida a small piece
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Black gram dal flour 1 cup
