Happy Hair Days
Rod Anker

Well, it is that time of the year again: kids are off on a break, the heat is rising in the cities and we are all thinking about what destination we should escape to.

Hills or beach--the main goal for the hardworking is to unwind, connect with family and loved ones, and even more importantly, with one’s self. With life being busy, we tend to forget to stop and assess what we are doing from time to time. This time, make sure your life’s plans are going on schedule and that you are making the most of the precious moments.

Not all of you are crazy like me and sit in the sun for hours on end to get the perfect tan (as harmful on the skin as it is). A lot of people in India will run to higher cooler grounds in the hills or to Europe where the temperature is cooler!

Packing the bags for you and the family can be a nightmare, trying to decide the right items to carry. So make sure you pack some basics for your hair that will keep your locks looking fabulous on the trip and also to ensure it comes back as happy and refreshed as you do!
  • Before going on a holiday, make sure you have a trim to ensure your hair is in the best condition possible. The shape and size of your hair should be such that it can be easily managed, and easy to tie.
  • Carry combs with wide teeth to gently remove the tangles. Use it in the shower when the conditioner is in the hair.
  • You should carry your regular shampoo and conditioner. Don’t rely on hotel products as they are usually generic and do not cater to many different hair types.
  • A heat protecting serum like Alfa Parf’sCristalli Liquid is a must to carry.
  • Carry a soft scrunchie or hairband to put your hair up giving you a different look and keeping your hair tangle free on your adventures.
  • Some colourful hair clips will also help. This can take your day look to night and bling it up with some very beautiful accessories out there. It is a nice way to add drama to your look without spending time on it.
  • A silk pillowcase will stop the tangles and knots whilst you are sleeping and assist in keeping your neat-hair look longer. You can also do this at home.
  • Depending on the climate and your hair, I would suggest using a leave-in conditioner to keep moisture levels up in your hair. We should also keep in mind that the water quality in different cities varies and we need to adjust to it. So it is better to be armed with the right tools rather than wasting time trying to find a product in another city or country.
  • Last but not least, pack a few scarves, and you can just imagine how many looks one can create from formal to ultra casual. Have some fun with the colours! No one knows you when you are away, so don’t shy away from experimenting.
Do not waste family time on your hair. So the goal should be to go armed with a few looks in your mind. You could blow dry your hair on day one, and then tie it up in various ways. I hope you will be taking time off to get pampered whilst on holiday, so I am sure there will be a massage or two of your hair as well.Get you hair shampooed and conditionedby an expert.

Think about where you are going and what type of things you may be doing. For example, if you have a dinner or event planned during the vacation, then plan what you will do with your hair. The last thing anyone needs is a last minute rush to get dressed for a dinner when you are on aholiday. After all, it is meant to be the most relaxed time for you in the whole year, right!

The main thing I would say to you is to relax, use this time to rejuvenate your mind, body and soul and not to take the small things in life too seriously. If you have a good cut, it should stand you in good stead for the holidays and your worries will be less. Enjoy the time and stay away from too much sunlight but also remember that 10 to 15 minutes of direct sunshine a day is good for your hair as it will give your hair the much needed Vitamin-D.

Have fun and come back ready to live life to the fullest!
