Lunch-Time Quick-Fixes
Dr Debraj Shome & Dr Rinky Kapoor
You get your hair cut at lunch. You go to the dentist during your lunch-hour. You even hit the gym for a quick workout and a smoothie. So, why not brighten your look over lunch in a walk-in and walk-out procedure?

After all, you deserve to look your best this festive season. Botox ushered in the era of the "lunch-hour" cosmetic procedure, and now, there are even more procedures to choose – from smoothing lines, plumping lips to getting rid of sun damage. The big advantage in entrusting the job to a doctor is that no one else will even know about your lunchhour procedure, if you so wish it.

So, what exactly can you do and what will it do for you?

Botox & Derma Fillers
Botox is the most popular among lunch-time procedures, and is used to fill in those dynamic wrinkles that show up whenever you smile, frown or show emotion. There are a variety of products in the market - collectively called derma fillers - that fill mild lines to deep wrinkles.

Collagen injections are popular as well as products made from hyaluronic acid gel. These fillers can all be done in minutes and can fill in moderate to deep wrinkles, plump up the lips and even help smooth out some acne scars.

Skin Resurfacing Treatments
Several procedures fall under the category of lunch-hour skin resurfacing: peels, micro-dermabrasion and laser resurfacing. Because these tend to be a little more traumatic to the skin, the treatments are generally mild and require several sessions to get the desired results. This is done so that you can return to work without the redness and swelling that accompanies stronger procedures.

Chemical peels
How it works
  • This is a technique used to remove layers of damaged, unhealthy, dull or aged skin to reveal newer, softer and younger looking skin.
  • The results are not apparent for a couple of days because the skin has to actually peel off.
  • Kinds of peels Two popular chemical peels are glycolic and salicylic acid peels.
  • At the Apollo Aesthetic Clinic, we have a wide range of international peels along with the above peels, like Arginine peel, Lactic peel, Biopeel, Combination peels, etc.
Can be used for
  • Dull skin.
  • Patchy pigmented skin of face, arms, legs or back.
  • Skin lightening of face, neck, arms, legs, back.
  • Skin rejuvenation.
  • Instant skin glow.
  • Reduction of oiliness of skin.
  • Reduction of open pores.
  • As regular maintenance treatment for healthy skin and anti-aging.
  • Sun damaged skin on face, neck, shoulders.
  • To reduce patchy pigmented skin like freckles, sunspots, age spots, melasma, etc.
  • Reduction of mild early aging fine lines, wrinkles.
  • Reduction of very mild pimple scars.
Hot trend
  • Used as part of bridal skin preparations packages
  • As 'Party' peel'
What you can expect
  • A session lasts for 30 – 40 minutes, after which you can get back to work. Hence it is also called 'lunchtime peel'.
  • You need to cleanse the skin gently and apply post peel creams as advised to you.
  • Do not scratch.
  • Avoid the sun and use a high SPF and UVA block sunscreen.
  • Do not use your routine anti-aging creams for a week or later, start them only on your dermatologist's advice.
Laser peel
How it works
  • This delivers laser light in tiny beams. The beams create small areas of tissue injury, while sparing surrounding normal skin from damage. Subsequent re-growth of cells and new collagen expression from neighbouring healthy tissue provides a quicker remodeling process, with little or no downtime.
  • Does not require any anesthesia, dye application or any elaborate cooling process, thus requiring very little preparation and clean up time.
  • Unlike other lasers that vapourise skin layers, these non-ablative lasers work under the skin to stimulate collagen production.
  • The downside is that it takes several months for collagen to reproduce and create volume.
  • Results typically are seen after 2-3 days in the form of a fresh new look to the face.
Can be used for
  • It works really well for lines around the eyes and mouth.
What you can expect
  • Each treatment session can be completed in 15-30 minutes.
  • Since it has no or minimal downtime, a majority of individuals are able to resume their normal activities the same day. Shaving can also be done after the treatment.
  • Is virtually pain free, and with no side effects.
  • The skin may look a little dirty after 1-2 days following treatment. After that you will find your skin looks smoother, and fresher.
  • You might choose to have 1-2 annual treatments in order to keep the youthful appearance.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure, and use a good sunscreen with a good moisturizer.
Micro-dermabrasion
How it works
  • Micro-dermabrasion is a little more aggressive, but it can be performed with a gentle touch.
  • This procedure basically sand-blasts the skin, scraping the dead cells off the top and then vacuums it up.
What you can expect
  • You may have some redness afterwards, but the results are readily visible as new healthy skin is revealed and the appearance of wrinkles and dark spots are reduced.

    Caution
    • If you decide to use your lunchhour to rejuvenate your face with Botox or a little micro-dermabrasion, make sure you have an experienced cosmetic surgeon or dermatologist perform the procedure. Just because it can be done in a few minutes doesn't mean something can't go wrong. That lunch-time secret will be obvious to everyone if things go awry.

HYDRAFACIAL OR 'PARTY' FACIAL

How it works
  • Hydrafacial = Micro-dermabrasion + Hydropeel + Serum based skin resurfacing.
  • It is the only procedure that combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration and antioxidant protection simultaneously, resulting in clearer, more beautiful skin.
Can be used for
  • Instant skin brightening and glow
  • Lightening of brown spots on face
  • Treatment of oily skin and open pores
  • Reduction of wrinkles and fine lines
  • Maintenance of glowing skin
Special advantages
  • This machine is exclusively found with specially trained dermatologists only. An extensive analysis of your skin leads to an individual treatment and care plan.
  • The dermatologist decides the depth of abrasion to be done individually for your skin condition. Proper selection is responsible for the perfection of the microdermabrasion procedure.
  • Special tip removes dull dead skin while simultaneously introducing vitamin serums.
  • Dry diamond crystal free abrasion can be combined with wet hydrafacial treatment for deeper abrasion and better glow.
  • A deep micro massage improves cell metabolism – rejuvenating the skin from within. It optimises the absorption rate of the active ingredients as well as improves circulation. Massage improves lymphatic drainage and reduces swelling of face.
  • Skin specific serums help in deep cleansing, exfoliating, extracting, hydrating, antioxidant treatment and more.
What you can expect
  • No discomfort or downtime.
  • The treatment is soothing, moisturising, non-invasive and nonirritating and boosts the dull skin with antioxidants, fresh oxygen and hydrating serums, which can bring instant life to lifeless skins.
  • Each treatment is individually harmonised to your skin type and structure.
  • Your skin feels as though you had a mini facelift; your skin feels firm, revived, fresh and healthy. The results are visibly boosted after each treatment.
  • Your skin may look slightly flushed immediately after the treatment, but should return to normal in 10–30 minutes. Your skin will look and feel smoother and brighter instantly, and you are ready to 'face' the world confidently in just 30 minutes.
