FAQs on Common Aesthetic Procedures

1. What are Botox and Facial Dermal Fillers?

Facial wrinkles are of two kinds:
1. Those that appear temporarily when you contract muscles during a facial expression, like 'frown lines' or 'worry lines' on the forehead, lines between the eyebrows, and 'crow's feet' around the eyes.
Botox injections are used to relax these underlying muscles that cause the wrinkling of skin. They become effective in about 3 days and last 3 to 9 months.
2. The second kind of wrinkles are static creases that occur due to loss of collagen beneath the skin's surface, like the 'smile lines' around the outer edges of the mouth, the crease that stretches from the edge of the nose to the corner of the mouth, 'hollows' under the eyes, in the chin, cheek or the lip. These are better dealt with using fillers that 'fill' the creases and add volume to the face. Juvederm, Radiesse, Restylane, Collagen, Aquamid and Sculptra are the fillers we use.

2. Are the procedures safe?
Botox is a purified protein that is produced by a bacteria, and has been in therapeutic use by doctors since the 1960s. Very tiny needles are used to administer miniscule doses, so you can barely feel the pin prick. Facial dermal fillers are a little more painful and may require a topical local anesthetic cream. Millions of people using Botox and Fillers have found them to be safe, easy and quick 'lunchtime' procedures, and very importantly, relatively cheap, non-invasive methods for looking younger and better.

3. What is the advantage of getting these done at Apollo?
The biggest advantage at the Apollo Hospitals Institute for Aesthetic Surgery is that Botox and Fillers are administered here b y a n internationally renowned facial plastic surgeon and researcher, and not merely a skin specialist or a technician, as at other skin centers. Apollo has a state-of-the-art laser suite for all these procedures Also, the Apollo center has been selected by the company that markets Botox as one of the few practices in the country to act as a training center to teach other physicians proper injection techniques.
4. What other aesthetic surgeries/ procedures do the surgeons at the Apollo center take up?
  • Blepharoplasty or Eyelid Lift, treatment of under eye bags, under eye aging, loose skin on the eyelid, and lines around the eyes
  • Endoscopic Forehead and Brow Lifts
  • Cosmetic Face Lifts including Midface Lifts, Face Lifts of the lower portion of the face and neck.
  • Rhinoplasty – Nose contouring and shaping.
