Yellow fever is a viral disease that may lead to hemorrhage and death.

Causes

• Yellow fever virus
• Bite of an infected mosquito

Symptoms

• Fever
• Chills
• Headache
• Back pain
• Muscle cramps and pain
• Bleeding into the skin
• Nausea or vomiting
• Black vomit containing blood
• Delirium or mental confusion
• Organ failure
• Jaundice
• Coma
• Death

Treatment
There is no cure for this disease but symptoms can be managed by:

• Resting
• Consuming plenty of fluids
• Intravenous fluids
• Blood replacement
• Dialysis

Prevention

• Vaccination before travelling to prone areas
• Avoiding mosquito bites when travelling to prone areas.
