Urinary Tract Infection

 

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a bacterial infection along the urinary tract.

Causes

  • Bacteria

Symptoms

  • Frequent urination
  • Very little urine output
  • Painful urination
  • Blood or pus in urine
  • Cloudy urine
  • Foul odor in urine
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Flank or groin pain
  • Chills
  • Fever
  • Weakness

Treatment

  • Oral or intravenous antibiotics

Prevention

  • Drinking plenty of water
  • Avoid delaying urination
  • Urinating after sexual intercourse
  • Cleaning from front to back after visiting the toilet
  • Changing sanitary pads often
  • Wearing cotton underwear
  • Promptly change soiled diapers for babies
