Typhoid

 

Typhoid is a bacterial disease causing sustained fever.

Causes

  • Salmonella typhi bacteria
  • Consuming food or water contaminated with feces of infected person

Symptoms

  • Prolonged fever
  • Abdominal pain and discomfort
  • Diarrhea
  • Rash on lower chest and abdomen
  • Body pain
  • Poor appetite
  • Delirium

Treatment

  • Antibiotics

Prevention

  • Washing hands with soap after visiting the toilet
  • Washing hands before meals
  • Washing raw fruits and vegetables before consumption
  • Drinking boiled or bottled water
  • Vaccination when travelling to risky areas
