Turner Syndrome

 

Turner syndrome is a chromosomal disorder in females where a part of or one entire X chromosome is missing.

Causes

Its causes are not known.

Symptoms

  • Short height
  • Low hairline at the back
  • Low set ears
  • Drooping eyelids
  • Webbed neck
  • Broad chest
  • Swelling in hands and feet
  • No menstrual periods
  • Infertility
  • Over weight
  • Visual problems
  • Ear infections
  • Heart defects
  • Kidney problems

Treatment

There is no cure for this condition but severity of symptoms can be reduced by:

  • Growth hormones during growing years to increase height
  • Estrogen therapy to develop secondary sexual characteristics
  • Assisted reproductive techniques

Prevention

There is no prevention for this syndrome.
