Pancreatic cancer is a cancer that starts in the pancreas.
Causes are not known but risk factors include:
- Old age
- Family or personal history of pancreatic cancer
- Chronic pancreatitis
Symptoms are not apparent in the early stages. In the later stage they may include:
- Pain in the upper abdomen that may radiate to the back
- Nausea or vomiting
- Appetite loss
- Weight loss
Pancreatic cancer can be cured only if detected in the early stage and treatment includes:
- Surgery to remove the cancer
- Radiation therapy
There is no specific prevention for pancreatic cancer but a healthy lifestyle may reduce the risk.
