Myopia or nearsightedness is a defect of the eye causing distant objects to appear blurred.

Causes

• Longer than normal eyeball
• More than normal curvature of the cornea

Symptoms

• Blurred distance vision
• Squinting when focusing on distant objects

Treatment

• Eyeglasses
• Contact lenses
• Orthokeratology to flatten the cornea with help of rigid contact lenses
• Refractive surgery like LASIK, PRK, etc.

Prevention
There is no way to prevent myopia.
