Meatal Stenosis

 

Meatal stenosis is narrowing of urethra which is the tube that carries the urine outside the body.

Causes

  • Congenital defects
  • Hypospadias
  • Circumcision
  • Scar tissues at the tip of the penis due friction from diapers

Symptoms

  • Visibly narrow urethral opening in boys
  • Increased strength of urinary stream
  • Spraying or dribbling of urine
  • Discomfort or pain during urination
  • Bleeding after urination
  • Incontinence
  • Urinary tract infections

Treatment

  • Surgery to widen the urethral opening

Prevention

  • Avoid circumcision
  • Avoid rough underclothes
  • Avoid wet and unhygienic underclothes
  • Avoid harsh detergents
  • Choose comfortable diapers
