Latex allergy is a condition where the body is unable to tolerate natural rubber latex.
Causes
- Exposure to latex containing products
Symptoms
- Redness in the eye
- Itchiness in the eye
- Tearing
- Runny nose
- Sneezing
- Coughing
- Breathlessness or wheezing
- Rash or cracks on the skin
- Anaphylactic shock in case of severe allergy
Treatment
- Avoidance of latex in all its forms
- Avoiding inhaling latex particles through powder coating in latex gloves and other products
Incase of anaphylactic reaction:
- Oxygen
- Epinephrine
- Steroids
Prevention
- Avoid using latex products
- Avoid inhaling latex particles from powder coating in latex products
- Replace latex rubber products with latex free rubber products
