Hypopigmentation is a condition causing loss of skin color due to melanocyte depletion.
Causes
- Autoimmune disorder like vitiligo
- Genetic defect like albinism
- Trauma to skin such as burns
- Infections
Symptoms
- Smooth white patches on the skin
- Complete absence of pigmentation in skin, hair or eyes
- Vision problems
Treatment
Hypopigmentation due to skin trauma may get cured on its own. In other cases, treatment may include:
- Corticosteroid creams
- Light treatments
Prevention
There is no way to prevent hypopigmentation. |
