Hypopigmentation

 

Hypopigmentation is a condition causing loss of skin color due to melanocyte depletion.

Causes

  • Autoimmune disorder like vitiligo
  • Genetic defect like albinism
  • Trauma to skin such as burns
  • Infections

Symptoms

  • Smooth white patches on the skin
  • Complete absence of pigmentation in skin, hair or eyes
  • Vision problems

Treatment
Hypopigmentation due to skin trauma may get cured on its own. In other cases, treatment may include:

  • Corticosteroid creams
  • Light treatments

Prevention
There is no way to prevent hypopigmentation.
