Hepatitis B

 

Hepatitis B is an infection of the liver causing inflammation.

Causes

  • Hepatitis B virus
  • Infected blood
  • Infected body fluids
  • During childbirth from mother to child

Symptoms
In mild cases symptoms may not be present. When present, they may include:

  • General illness as in flu
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Dark urine
  • Jaundice

Treatment
Sometimes treatment is not required and it may get cured on its own. In other cases, treatment may include:

  • Antiviral medication
  • Liver transplant in case of damaged liver

Prevention

  • Vaccines
  • Practice safe sex
  • Avoid contaminated needles
  • Avoid sharing toothbrush and razor with infected person
