Fitz-Hugh-Curtis Syndrome

 

Fitz-Hugh-Curtis syndrome is a complication of the pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in women causing inflammation of the tissue lining the stomach and surrounding the liver.

Causes

  • Neisseria gonorrhoeae
  •  Chlamydia trachomatis

Symptoms

  • General ill health
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Chills
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Pain in the upper right side of the abdomen
  • Pain moving to right shoulder
  • Stringy adhesions between the liver and abdomen

Treatment

  • Antibiotics for infection and pain
  • Laparoscopy for adhesions

Prevention

  • Practice safe sex
  • Avoid multiple partners
  • Promptly treat any infection of the genitals
