Dermatofibroma

 

Dermatofibroma or hystiocytoma is a small non-cancerous growth of skin found usually on the legs.

Causes
Causes are not known but sometimes it is said to form due to minor trauma such as insect bite or an object pricking the skin.

Symptoms

  • Hard round bump
  • Itching or tenderness
  • Single or multiple
  • Color may vary form pink to brown

Treatment

  • No treatment is required in case of no discomfort
  • Size may be reduced by freezing with liquid nitrogen
  • Topical steroids or steroid injections
  • Surgery

Prevention
There is no way to prevent it.
