Delusional disorder is a chronic psychological condition where a person firmly believes in some non-bizarre delusion/ delusions or imaginary ideas which actually do not exist.
Causes are not clear but some possibilities are:
- Brain abnormalities
- Substance abuse
- Delusions or false beliefs despite proof of their non existence
- No cognitive impairment and absence of any other psychotic symptoms
- Hallucinations related to the false belief
- Antipsychotic medication
- Psychotherapy to educate the patient and the family about the problem
There is no known way to prevent delusional disorders.
