Cradle cap is a harmless rash on the scalp or around the ears, eyebrows or eyelids in infants over 2 months old.
Causes
The cause is not known but one of the possibilities is:
- Overactive sebaceous glands of the newborn due to presence of mother’s hormones in its blood.
Symptoms
- Yellowish, greasy rash
- Scaling and crusting
- Non itchy
- Non painful
Treatment
It does not require treatment and gets cured with time. It can be managed by:
- Oiling the scalp overnight
- Followed by gently brushing off the scales
- Finally shampooing with a mild baby shampoo
