Cradle cap is a harmless rash on the scalp or around the ears, eyebrows or eyelids in infants over 2 months old.

Causes
The cause is not known but one of the possibilities is:

• Overactive sebaceous glands of the newborn due to presence of mother’s hormones in its blood.

Symptoms

• Yellowish, greasy rash
• Scaling and crusting
• Non itchy
• Non painful

Treatment
It does not require treatment and gets cured with time. It can be managed by:

• Oiling the scalp overnight
• Followed by gently brushing off the scales
• Finally shampooing with a mild baby shampoo
