Chronic hepatitis is damage to the liver causing inflammation and lasting for more than six months.

Causes

  • Viral infections especial viral hepatitis
  • Autoimmune hepatitis
  • Steatohepatitis
  • Alcohol
  • Certain drugs
  • Certain health conditions such as Wilson’s disease

Symptoms
Usually, symptoms are very mild and include:

  • Fatigue
  • Jaundice
  • Fever
  • Fluid retention
  • Abdominal fullness
  • Pain in upper abdomen

Treatment

  • Correction of underlying condition
  • Antiviral medication to cure viral infections

Prevention

  • Taking proper vaccines
  • Practicing safe sex
  • Maintaining adequate hygiene
  • Avoid sharing personal grooming articles
  • Take adequate precautions while handling blood of infected people
