Child Pyloric Stenosis

 

Pyloric stenosis is a condition in infants which prevents passage of food from the stomach to the intestines.

Causes

  • Narrowing of the lower part of the stomach (pylorus) due to enlargement of muscles in that area.

Symptoms

  • Vomiting especially forceful or projectile
  • Very few stools
  • Mucous in the stools
  • No weight gain
  • Weight loss
  • Dehydration
  • Lack of energy

Treatment

  • Correction of dehydration and electrolyte disturbance with IV fluids
  • Surgery to spread the thickened muscles in order to open the passage
