A cataract is loss of clarity or increase in opacity of the natural lens of the eye causing vision problems.
Causes
- Old age
- Ultraviolet light
- Radiation
- Trauma or injury
- Genital defects
- Heredity
- Certain medications
- Certain disease like diabetes, hypertension etc.
Symptoms
- Blurred vision
- Frequent changes in eye glass prescription
- Light sensitivity
- Difficulty in distinguishing colors
- Poor night vision
- Double vision
- Gradual whitening of the pupils
Treatment
A mild cataract can be managed with a change of glasses but ultimately, surgery is the only way to cure it.
