Bladder Cancer

 

Bladder cancer is a condition which causes abnormal growth of cells in the urinary bladder.

Causes

  • Genetic
  • Environmental carcinogens like certain chemicals
  • Certain medications
  • Chronic bladder infections
  • Cigarette smoke

Symptoms

  • Blood in urine
  • Pain or burning during urination
  • Increased frequency of urination
  • Urge to urinate without producing much urine
  • Back or abdominal pain

Treatment

  • Electrocautery
  • Immunotherapy
  • Chemotherapy
  • Radiation therapy
  • Surgical removal of the affected area

Prevention
Bladder cancer cannot be prevented but some modifiable risk factors can be adopted.

  • Quit smoking
  • Avoiding exposure to industrial chemicals
  • Avoiding exposure to arsenic
  • Eating a healthy diet
