Causes
- Bacteria called shigella
- Contaminated food or water
- Contaminated hands
Symptoms
- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Blood or pus in stools
- Fever
- Dehydration
Treatment
- Salt and fluid replacement orally or intravenously
- Antibiotics in case of severe infection
Prevention
- Washing hands with soap after using the toilet
- Washing hands before handling food
- Washing raw fruits and vegetables thoroughly
- Cooking food thoroughly before consumption
